Where the work happens
IoT modules differ from WiFi modules in where the work happens: the wireless stack runs on the module and the host MCU only exchanges commands over UART. That keeps host firmware simple and is why IoT modules dominate battery-powered and cost-sensitive endpoints.
When you evaluate, confirm three things: which cloud the firmware build targets (public clouds have different provisioning flows from a private cloud), whether you need Bluetooth Mesh alongside WiFi, and whether the module exposes PWM/ADC for direct sensor or control wiring. Which clouds are supported?
Firmware builds are available for Alibaba Cloud and Tuya, plus private-cloud deployments. Tell us your target cloud before sampling so we ship the right build.
UART, SDIO or USB for an IoT endpoint?
UART is the typical IoT choice — the stack runs on-module and the host only sends commands. USB and SDIO belong to higher-throughput WiFi module designs.
